Bonaventure Support Services opened its doors in 2009 and continues to grow in the adult and child/youth field.  We work with a variety of teams to provide a program unique to the individual’s needs.  We are locally owned and a family run organization. 
We are looking for a Director of Residential Services to fill a 1-year maternity leave.  The person we are seeking is compassionate, a strong leader, dynamic, flexible, energetic team players who is able to lead a group of managers who are supporting youth and adults in their residential homes.  This position reports directly to our Administrator and Executive Director.
As a Director, it would be expected that you will be responsible for;
  • Maintaining the Policies and Procedures set out by the company
  • Maintain the standards set out by CARF and the MCFD
  • Ensure the health and safety of the individuals and your team, creating a safe, trusting environment
  • Ensure plans are being followed based on the youth and adult needs
  • Communicate with the larger team, family, and Ministry, CLBC
  • Documentation and report writing
  • Medication monitoring
  • Ensure youth are treated respectfully, including demonstrating a high degree of tolerance for youth with unique personalities and challenges. 
  • Support individuals with communicating their needs, choices and preferences
  • Along with monitoring and assisting where necessary with the following; personal and health care, behavioural, nutritional, recreation/social/education/vocational needs, environmental, financial, communication and team management.
The successful Director will be able to provide the following;
  • Formal education with Children and Youth (diploma plus) or other relevant degrees
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Understanding of CARF an asset
  • SIVA or MANDT training an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal behaviour and communication skills
  • The understanding, desire and ability to work with persons with disabilities and demonstrated personal suitability to promote dignity, independence, individuality and spirit
  • Ability to work independently
  • Must be in good health
  • Be organized and able to work in high stress environment
  • Show a high standard of professionalism
  • Valid First Aid Certificate
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license
  • Successful MCFD Screening
  • Successful Criminal Record Check
  • 3 reference checks

Child and Youth Residential Manager

Nanaimo, BC, - Youth Residential Worker
The qualified applicant will be willing and able to work a variety of shifts including evenings and weekends. This person will have the desire to make a difference in the lives of children and youth, ages 7-18 years old. The new team member will work within a larger interdisciplinary team to provide a program which will include recreation, life skills, social opportunities, regulation skills, may include some personal care and other opportunities that are set out by the team. If you feel you have the qualifications, skill set and desire to make a difference in a child or youth's life, we look forward to hearing from you. These youth could present with the following; non-verbal, personal care needs, aggressive behaviour, aggressive language, possibility of elopement, attachment disorder, could have had some type of trauma in their lives which manifests as behaviours to name a few. If you have worked with vulnerable youth and/or adults, hold a CYC, CSW, ECE with a special needs certificate, or relevant certificates, diplomas or degrees OR are passionate about supporting youth and wish to make a difference, we would love to talk with you.
The qualified team member will be working as a part of a larger interdisciplinary team. These are some of the responsibilities and duties that will be required;
  • Some personal care needs
  • Working 1-1 with the child/youth in their residential home,
  • Working with the youth program or within the community at large,
  • Providing a recreational based program that allows the child/youth to explore safely
  • Communicating with the team through documentation, meetings and log books,
  • Promote health and safety at all times
  • Have patience and understanding of the child/youth and the situation

The qualified applicant will be able to provide the following:
  • Must be 19 years of age 
  • Valid BC Class 5 Drivers Licence
  • Ministry of Child and Family Development Screening, Employer will file
  • Drivers Abstract
  • RCMP Criminal Record Check
  • Criminal Records Review Act Schedule A -Employer will file
  • Current Ministry of Health Approved First Aid Certificate including CPR
